Genetic Diversification and Dispersal of Taro (Colocasia esculenta (L.) Schott)
Taro (Colocasia esculenta (L.) Schott) is widely distributed in tropical and sub-tropical areas. However, its origin, diversification and dispersal remain unclear. While taro genetic diversity has been documented at the country and regional levels in Asia and the Pacific, few reports are available from Americas and Africa where it has been introduced through human migrations. We used eleven mic...
متن کاملAntihepatotoxic Activity of Colocasia Esculenta Leaf Juice
Influenced by the ancient literature of various communities and reports presented by modern authors regarding the medicinal uses of Colocacia esculenta., present study was conducted to investigate the antihepatotoxic efficacy associated with Colocacia esculenta whole leaf juice. The antihepatotoxic and hepatoprotective studies were carried against two well known hepaotoxins paracetamol and CCl4...
متن کاملCharacterization of 11 new microsatellite loci in taro (Colocasia esculenta).
Eleven new microsatellite markers were isolated from taro, Colocasia esculenta (L.) Schott, a root crop widely distributed all over the world. Forty-eight primer pairs were designed from a microsatellite-enriched genomic library, of which 11 primer pairs have polymorphisms in 30 individuals tested from a population in China, which revealed two to six alleles per locus with the observed and expe...

متن کاملCryopreservation of in vitro-grown shoot-tips of tropical taro (Colocasia esculenta var. esculenta) by vitrification.
In vitro shoot-tips of three cultivars of tropical taro (Colocasia esculenta var. esculenta (L.) Schott) were successfully cryopreserved by vitrification. Different conditioning treatments were required for each of the cultivars, while the vitrification protocol was constant for all. For the cultivars E399 and CPUK, shoot-tips from three-month-old in vitro plants grown on solidified MS were pre...
